Psychotherapy and Medication Management
I provide psychotherapy (talk therapy) sessions and medication management when indicated. In-person appointments are available on Mondays in my Patchogue, NY location. Telepsychiatry appointments are available on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and on Saturday mornings as needed.
While I specialize in the treatment of Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, I provide mental health services for women across the lifespan. This includes but is not limited to treatment for general anxiety, depression, overall stress reduction, mood disorders related to menopause and counseling for women struggling with infertility.
I offer lactation consultations in my Patchogue office. Indications for lactation consults include having a history of breast surgery, minimal breast changes during pregnancy, breast or nipple pain, acute engorgement, maternal anxiety related to breastfeeding, persistent difficulty achieving or maintaining a latch, inadequate infant stools, failure of infant to feed at least 8 times in 24 hours by the end of week 1 of life and inadequate infant weight gain.
These are only a small sampling of circumstances in which meeting with a lactation consultant may be helpful. The first 4-6 weeks of breastfeeding can be incredibly challenging and this period of time is the most important for establishing your milk supply. If you are having difficulty, it is best to address any issues as soon as possible.
Please contact me for information about scheduling a consult.
What Is Telepsychiatry?
In simplest terms, Telepsychiatry is the delivery of mental healthcare services through a videoconferencing platform. I use a software program called “Secure Video” which is highly reliable and easy to use. The video session is NOT recorded, is fully encrypted and complies with all HIPPA regulations to ensure the protection of your privacy.
The only equipment required on your end is a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera. (For example, an iPhone, laptop, iPad etc.). This service enables you to meet with me at times and from locations that are most convenient for you. For example, at home while your baby is sleeping or in the evening when your partner is home. Some patients even schedule their session during their lunch hour while at work.
Essentially, the session is run the same way as an in-person appointment. You will fill out the same intake forms prior to our first meeting and I am able to send most medications that you may need directly to your pharmacy to be filled.
Current research has shown Telepsychiatry services to be just as, if not more effective than traditional in-person therapy. Patients report that the convenience, enhanced privacy and ability to remain in their own environment allows them to feel more comfortable when sharing personal information with their provider. Additionally, scheduling challenges associated with lack of access to childcare, transportation issues and bad weather are nearly eliminated.
Take a look at this short video to see how simple this system is for both patients and providers to use and feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.
